Theater veteran Christine Estabrook will round out the cast of the Broadway production of Spring Awakening. Estabrook, who will portray a variety of female adult roles, replaces Mary McCann, executive director of the Atlantic Theatre Company's acting school, who appeared in the Atlantic's off-Broadway production of the Duncan Sheik/Steven Sater musical last summer.
Estabrook portrayed Martha Huber on the first season of Desperate Housewives and appeared in the feature films Spiderman 2 and The Usual Suspects. Her Broadway credits include The Sisters Rosensweig, I'm Not Rappaport, The Inspector General and The Cherry Orchard. She won a Drama Desk Award for her performance off-Broadway in The Boys Next Door and was nominated for North Shore Fish and Win/Lose/Draw. She won an Obie for Pastorale.
Estabrook joins Stephen Spinella Angels in America, recently announced as Frank Wood's replacement as the only other adult actor in Spring Awakening. Set in the 1890s, the musical depicts how young people navigate the thrilling, confusing and mysterious time of their sexual awakening. The young ensemble cast includes Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and John Gallagher Jr., directed by Michael Mayer.
Spring Awakening begins previews at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on November 16 and is scheduled to open on December 10.
